Hailing from the Eastern Cape, Mvume Dandala studied Theology at a Methodist Seminary. He has been involved in politics for many years, and facilitated peace-brokering during the violence of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Relatively unknown on the party politics scene, he was chosen as presidential candidate for the newly-formed Cope party. (Werner Beukes, Sapa)
