The Azanian People’s Organisation (Azapo) was formed in 1978 to carry on the work of the Black Consciousness Movement following the government banning of a host of Black Consciousness Movement organisations in 1977. Azapo won 0.25% of the votes in the 2004 elections, and currently holds one seat in Parliament. (Werner Beukes, Sapa)
