The African National Congress (ANC) has a long history as South Africa's key anti-apartheid struggle organisation. Struggle icons such as Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, and Chris Hani have all been leading members of the ANC. Having won the fight to end Apartheid, the ANC enjoyed a landslide victory in SA's first democratic elections in 1994. In the 2004 elections they won 69.69% of the vote, bagging a two thirds majority. (Paballo Thekiso, AFP)
